As the days draw near for the maiden edition of Cross River state Journalist (CROSJOF) week that is holding in the FCT, Abuja, the planning committee members, led by its chairman. Mr. Ofem Uket paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Minister of state, Power. Price Goddy Jedy Agba in his office in Abuja recently.
The Minister while receiving the delegation urged the members to remain very professional and shun all forms of media malpractice including hate speech and pulling others down, adding that any firm of unethical practice will spell doom for the media profession.
According to him “the continued rise and push for the pull down syndrome among Nigerians will continue to slug the developmental drive of the country.”
Agba explained that unless Nigerians will change the narrative and redirect their attitudinal posture to building one another , the quest for unity, development, and national cohesion would remain a mirage.
“Journalists for me, are the unseen fourth arm of government, therefore I believe until Nigerians especially journalists who are saddled with the tasked of shaping the society rise to these challenges, others will take advantage and make the minority occupy the fiddler position in the scheme of things. That’s why am happy that you are here today and I urge you to remain focus and shun all forms of malpractice in this your God’s given profession.
“If we don’t shun the spirit of pull down syndrome, build one another especially Crossriverians, we are going nowhere, others will use us and dump and progress to other places and we will still remain”.
According to him, the time is now for Crossriverians to accept one another, come together to build the state and a people with future adding that ” as a people we must know where we are coming from , where we are going in our collective bargain.”
Earlier, leader of the delegation, Elder Ofem Uket told the minister that the forum was in his office to congratulate him on his merited appointment as minister of the Federal Republic adding that both the state and country at large have confidence that he will deliver even as he has proven this while serving as GGM, crude in the NNPC.
