The President of the Cocharis Group, Dr Cosmas Maduka, has displayed concern over the increasing cases of insecurity in Nigeria, lamenting that the circumstance is not appropriate for investment.
According to him, a circumstance where businessmen have had to move about with gun-wielding escorts and security operatives as if they were going to the war does not portend a friendly environment for investors.
He, therefore, challenged the government to do something urgently to build confidence in investors to bring business to Nigeria.
“We need to fix this country and get the level of confidence where true investors will come,” he said.
Maduka stated this after delivering a lecturer at the 7th edition of the Leading Edge Conference and Business Summit organised by The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (Vision House) in Abuja.
Speaking on the ease of doing business in the country, he said, “Obviously, the environment is not right. There is no need for us to fool ourselves about it. The government has a lot to do so as to create confidence. When you are talking about investors, these are people that have already made money and they are capitalists. But nobody values money more than their life. When you are coming from the airport and somebody with two guns will have to escort you, you know that you are going to the war front. Have you seen a good investment in a war front?
“We need to fix this country and get the level of confidence where true investors will come. People who are coming have something to take out.”
At the event, Senior Pastor of TREM Vision House, Rev. Max Gbinije, said the church had empowered over 2,000 persons since the inception of the programme.
He said, “We have empowered over 2,000 people in the last seven years. We want to equip people for them to know what it entails to be in the business world.
“This year, we have over 600 persons in skills acquisition. Before now, we had to give start-up finance of about N300,000 each. But there has always been the challenge of what next to do (with it). So, we decided to be empowering them with skills. The very best among them are already shining stars.”
