Lagos State Ferry Service says it will from the end of this month commence operations with fourteen (14) passenger boat of different capacities and warn car barge from the movement of vehicles on the waterways.
It’s Managing Director- Hon. Ladi Balogun stated this at the end of a four (4) day strategic retreat for management staff with the theme “Making Lagos a 21st-century economy Lagferry: As an enabler”
Balogun explains that the retreat is to enable the agency’s staff refresh, relearn and collate ideas from professionals in the water transportation sector.
“From Tin Can Island Roro port to end-users around Mile 2 areas, Lagos Island, CMS, Marina, or at Ikorodu, we are ready, we are set. And for us to have an insight into how we want to operate a modern ferry services in energising and catalysing a 21st-century desire by Lagos State, we’re examining at the roles Lagferry Services is going to play. So that is why we brought all the management staff of Lagos State Ferry Services together for this strategic management retreat” Hon. Ladi Balogun
He assured Lagosians of safety, comfort and accountability on the waterways through the deployment of technology which he described as the effort to ensure that intermodal transport system goals of the present administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo Olu are achieved.
In the remarks, The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transportation- Oluseyi Owenu and Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation- Oluwatoyin Fayinka, assured of government determination to tap into the various resources of the waterways. Adding that the private sector participation will be used to achieve this feat.
The four (4) days retreat had in attendance the officials of MIDAS partners, The National Inland Waterways Authority, Lagos State Inland Waterways Authority, Lagos State Ministries of Transportation and Economic Planning and Budget, Chairman House Committee on Transportation Temitope Adewale* amongst others.
