A fatal road crash which occurred along Akure-Owo Expressway, at the NNPC Mega Station area Akure, has left two persons dead.

It was gathered that the accident occurred a few meters away from the State Headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Akure, Ondo State.

An eyewitness account stated that the accident involved a trailer, a car and a motorcycle also known as Okada, stating that the Okada rider, while trying to avoid being hit by a trailer, swerved to the other lane facing the car coming from the opposite direction. So it was crushed by the car, killing the two people on the Okada.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be revealed at the time of filing this report. The remains of the deceased were said to have been deposited at the morgue of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Akure.

The Head of Operations of the FRSC, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, confirmed the incident on Monday.

He said, ”The accident happened after seven o clock on Sunday evening and the two people on the Okada were killed”

The incident was said to have incited the anger of the people around the area, as some youths hurried to the scene and allegedly burnt down the car.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro confirmed the incident, saying the police had made some arrests in connection with the burning of the vehicle.

”By the time our men got to the scene of the accident, the vehicle had been burnt down. We have commenced an investigation into the matter but some people had been arrested,” the PPRO stated.
