It was also gathered on Tuesday that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has begun the fumigation of airports.

The Minister of Environment, Muhammad Mahmood, said disinfection teams of the Federal Government were now working in states of the North-West, South-South, South-East and South-West.

He disclosed this at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 while speaking on areas that were being decontaminated in Nigeria.

Mahmood said, “Currently as I’m speaking with you, there is a team in the North-West and is right now at the Ahmadu Bello University.

“Over the weekend, they decontaminated and disinfected the Nigerian Defence Academy, the courts around that area and some other places.

“Again, tomorrow, the teams in South-South and South-East will commence decontamination and disinfection, particularly in Edo and the others will start in Anambra.”

The Minister noted that the disinfection exercise had continued in Lagos, adding that states in the North-East would be disinfected next week.

This came as FAAN also tweeted on Tuesday that it was fumigating the Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt international airports.

“Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt international airports (are being) fumigated ahead of reopening,” the agency stated via its verified Twitter handle.

Mahmood, however, noted that disinfection teams from the Federal Ministry of Environment were still consulting with officials from the Federal Ministry of Aviation before commencing the planned decontamination of aircraft.
