The Nigeria Customs Service has announced the seizure of 33 containers of expired and spoiled rice, one container of rice concealed with spared parts, 11 containers of unregistered pharmaceutical products, two containers of used tyres, one of used clothing and four containers of refined vegetable oil in retail packs worth over N2.7 billion.
The Controller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Hammed Ibrahim Ali, made the announcement at Tincan Island Command, Lagos yesterday.
The Customs boss, said that the partial closure of land borders may have forced rice smugglers to attempt using the ports.
He said that investigations are on to unravel the identity of the importers of the seized goods.
