The Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja Lagos, of the Nigerian Custom Service, has intercepted various contraband goods between March 19th and April 9th 2018, with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of One billion, four hundred and sixty one million, six thousand, eight hundred and twenty three naira, eight kobo (1,461,006,823.8) only.
The seized items include: 963 cartons of frozen poultry products, 6003 bags of foreign parboiled rice (equivalent to 10 trailers), 64 exotic vehicles, 431 jerry cans of vegetable oil, 163 bales of used clothing, 569 pieces of used tyres, 69 bags of sugar among others.
Comptroller Mohammed Uba, who is in charge of FOU Ikeja, noted that the evacuation of 2,671 bags of 50kg rice using 9 hired trucks from 9 makeshift storage house in Ilogbo Abeokuta, was based on credible intelligence despite resistance.
The Comptroller also said, that “there was mob attack against our operatives but that never stop us from performing our statutory responsibilities and thank God there was no casualty on my men.
“Among the seized items was the interception of of 570 parcels and 98 sacks of Indian Hemp (cannabis sativa) weighing 1,550kg, along Olorunda axis of Ogun State, making it the highest seizure of such hard drugs in the history of FOU Zone A.
Among the 13 detained vehicles is a Toyota Land cruiser (2018), 1 Escalade Cardilac (2017), 1 Range Rover (2014), 1 Honda CRV, 1 Honda Accord, 1 BMW Salon, 1 Toyota Siena, 1 Hyundai among others. The interception of these vehicles was done while on information patrol at various locations within our areas of jurisdiction.
Comptroller Mohammed Uba, stated that the vehicles are still under detention pending the grace period allowed for the owners to bring relevant customs document.
Acknowledging the receipt of the cannabis, the Principal Staff Officer of Operations (PSO), Nigeria Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lawal Isiaka, said that the agency in collaboration with customs and other sister agencies are working together.
