The Federal Road Safety Commission has warned that motorists should be cautious due to the change in weather condition that is now foggy and makes visibility blurred and impeded. According to the Corps Public Education Officer, (FRSC), Bisi Kazeem, it is imperative to urge motorists to drive carefully, avoid blind spot overtaking, apply common sense speed and put on headlights and tail lights due to poor visibility from foggy weather so as to see and be seen. He observed that most parts of the country are affected with more critical situations around the northern axis of the country . Kazeem said following prescribed speed limit this period is no longer necessary as motorists would not be able to see far ahead nor notice obstructions. He said the weather is equally compounded by hazy condition that brings dust that is equally hazardous. According to him, the Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi says this is the time for vehicles to equally meet the minimum safety standards with good wipers, good head and rear lights, effective braking system and mechanically efficient. Meanwhile, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), FCT,  Corps Commander Ayuba Gora Wobin has said that the Corps is working round the clock and in collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure they achieve a near zero crash this yuiltide period. Wobin dropped this hint in an exclusive interview with Transport Day in his office in Abuja noting that there will be massive deployment of officers and men of FRSC to the three major corridors of Abuja city, namely, Gwagwalada, Zuba and the Nyanya-Mararaba axis. According to him, “These three routes are the major entries into the City and traffic during this period is always heavy so we will need more men to man them and arrangements is in top gear to see that we have a smooth operations in these area and beyond”, The Sector Commander also said that in order to avoid less bottlenecks throughout this period, the command will commence the special patrol which he said will include both the Special Marshals and the regular marshals. Responding to a question, Ayuba said education is key and the agency has carried out massive motor park rallies across the FCT even before the Ember Month, so what we are doing now is a kind of mop up action and I can assure you that travelling from or to Abuja will be stress free he said. “Jabi, Utako and Mararaba parks are the major travelling points in the city and we have been in touch both with the drivers and relevant unions to make sure that the parks are operated within the laid down rules, no drinking, ensure you have a good and serviced vehicle before you embark on any trip, drivers must be in good and stable condition before embarking on any journey”. He took time out to advise travelers this period to ensure they use the relevant and designated travelling parks rather than standing by the road side which may lead to some unfortunate situations such as kidnapping, robbery and other negative vices.  ]]>
